Its a looker for sure. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has full details on the new model. If Genesis wasn’ t a thing here, this could play Avalon to the Sonata’s Camry again. Power comes from a 2.5 I4 paired to an 8 speed auto. And a hybrid is coming powered by a 38 kw motor and a 2.4 I4. There’ s also weirdly a natural gas powered model.
The interior is fantastic and follows the design theme of the new Sonata and Palisade. Apparently its coming to market loaded too with them saying : Wheels as large as 19 inches are available, along with goodies like a head-up display, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and a 12-speaker JBL sound system. The list goes on with full LED headlights and electric seats, not to mention a plethora of safety and assistance systems as you’d expect from a flagship car.
I could see this selling if they brought it here. But it would never because, again Genesis is a thing. A very good thing at that.

Oh, I quit like that.
But then I liked the old Azera too.

I actually liked the old Azera too, especially the second gen. It was pretty much a bigger more luxurious Sonata both in position in the lineup and in styling.

It’s just so dull to drive, but not in the luxurious disconnected way a Lexus is.

I like the fact that it’s an I4 and not a transverse V6!
They could always call it a Genesis G50 or something for export markets

That white on tan interior.
Pair that with a nice metallic maroon exterior and sign me up.

Right. You’re just...there.

It could work in the Genesis lineup. Between the G70 and G80 though. Something to lure those ES buyers away.

That’s a hell of a fight to pick. Most ES owners ice talk to say “oh yeah this is my. 3rd, 4th, 5th one.”
I complimented a guy with a brand new one a few weeks ago, because I genuinely think that are gorgeous. He told me he’s bought new one every 3 years since 97 when he replaced his SeVille with one.

Yea the ES is one of those cars that has loyal repeat buyers that no one talks about. I think the people like that are the bulk of their sales.

It was supposed to be a comfortable, capable road trip machine. Driving dynamics weren’t a priority to anyone that would buy this. That’s not a bad thing.

I’m aware of that, as stated in the la st part of the comment . It’s too disconnected to be comfortable, and th e suspension is more bouncy than my GTI was. It’s a ba d compromise between sporty and comfortable . My parents are also still fighting dealers to actually get a carbon cleaning, as it rolls coal like a tuned and deleted diesel.

Okay I can see that disconnected saps confidence if it’s too evident. Bouncy would be really bad, at least unless you hit really bad potholes.
Bad emissions are a problem. I hope Hyundai/Kia are cleaning up their engine options. Emissions and mpg haven’t been tops of their list in their bigger offerings, historically.
I had a friend who was quite happy with the way it drove, but lost it when someone totaled him. Good safety, apparently.

I’m a big fan of this, slap a Genesis badge on it, call it the G6 0 or something, and boom, instant Lexus ES killer. Then again, not like the ES needed a killer or anything. It’s already a pretty niche car.

That is a very nice interior.

Oh god that’s hideous

I should clarify that the interior looks really nice, but that front end makes me think we should stop ripping on BMW’s grilles and say “WTF Hyundai” instead.
